Types of Internet – ADSL

ADSL

For years, asymmetric digital subscriber lines have been the standard in broadband across the country. Generally delivered via phone lines, ADSL can provide download speeds of 25mbps.

However, these speeds are directly dependent on the distance of your home or business from the telecom company’s “remote”. (The remote is the large gray cabinet you often see at the end of roads or the beginning of subdivisions.) These distance limitations make it low cost, and a perfect choice for rural communities with low customer saturation. ADSL is able to sustain reliable download speeds of 25mbps but uploads speed are greatly reduced as the customer or clients equipment is limited in its ability to push data back up the long copper cables.

If you’re interested in ADSL for home or business, check out Bledsoe Telephone Co-op If you’re located in Hamilton County, EPB has you covered, though we highly recommend their Fiber options!
