Types of Internet – VDSL

VDSL

For years, very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber lines have helped to spread broadband across the country with “triple play” options. Like, ADSL, VDSL is also delivered over phone lines, but can provide much faster download speeds of 50mbps using the VDSL(2) protocol.

However, these speeds are directly dependent on the distance of your home or business from the telecom company’s “remote”. (The remote is the large gray cabinet you often see at the end of roads or the beginning of subdivisions.) These distance limitations make it low cost, and a perfect choice for rural communities with low customer saturation providing IPTV, POTS (plain old telephone service), and Broadband internet. VDSL is able to sustain reliable download speeds of 50mbps but speeds are dramatically affected by distance.

These options are also great for rural work-from-home clients who may have needs that can’t be met by consumer ADSL lines or businesses that are outside an area served with fiber.

If you’re interested in VDSL for home or business, check out Bledsoe Telephone Co-op . If you’re located in Hamilton County, EPB has you covered, though we highly recommend their Fiber options!
